About

The Aspen Snowmass Nordic Ski Trail System is one of the largest free trail systems in the country!  This is all made possible with the voter-approved funding of the Pitkin County Open Space and Trails Program, and a long history of community supported cross country skiing the upper Roaring Fork Valley.

The trail system has grown and changed over the years, and now we are proud to conect the communities of Aspen, Snowmass Village, and Basalt with an integrated system of trails.  The Nordic program is now funded by Pitkin County Open Space and Trails, operated by the City of Aspen, and overseen by a volunteer board of Nordic enthusiasts, the non-profit Aspen Snowmass Nordic Council.  We also are proud to partner with the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club, public and private golf courses, and private land owners in order to provide a variety of programs and terrain.

We always strive to maintain perfect trails for both skate and classic skiing of all abilities and experience, as well as a select number of trails for winter walking and trails for enjoying Aspen's winter with your dog.  Our system hosts two fully-outfitted cross country centers operated by the locally owned Ute Mountaineer, that provide a full suit of rentals, lessons and equipment.  Come explore the trails. Pack a lunch and ski from town to town. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

On behalf of the Aspen Snowmass Nordic Council, Pitkin County Open Space and Trails, and the City of Aspen, we wish you happy skiing!
